What is F.I.G.H.T.

For years in Greene Co., the Greene County Jail/Detention Center has been without any type of rehabilitation or education as far as self help programs or other drug/alcohol rehabilitation programs. The need for such programs are essential in the jail to help responsible persons achieve a positive attitude and positive goals to become productively drug/alcohol free citizens. We are excited to say F.I.G.H.T has been authorized by jail administration!  Therefore a small group of individuals inside the detention center came together in agreement to take a positive action to begin a program called F.I.G.H.T which stands for Focused Individuals Getting Help Together. Our structure which is still improving consist of the twelve step drug/alcohol program, churches, organizations, ministers, licensed counselor and families have emerged to get this program moving forward. There is still a great need to get the word out about our program and ask for your talents and abilities to help achieve an interesting,  creative and confident giving program. Always achieving positive results and never boring is what we are striving for to separate us from other programs which become unsuccessful.

  1. The following are letters from current members of the F.I.G.H.T program. The group has also requested prayer.

My name is Conlandgous Jordan, AKA “Cane”. I am a founder and CEO of the F.I.G.H.T program. My mission is to end slavery to active addiction and to prevent children from becoming addicts and criminals. F.I.G.H.T will not be just your boring drug program, but a unique creative fun program creating positive activities for our youth and F.I.G.H.T members. F.I.G.H.T will consist of the 12 steps, psychology, parenting, anger management and any other positive materials that may be therapeutic. Most of my life I have been a criminal and have Allowed my vices to control my life. After years of living in a state of doom, I decided to F.I.G.H.T back! And this is how the F.I.G.H.T program began at the Greene County Detention/Workhouse were I currently resided. My goal is by the first of the year have F.I.G.H.T established on the streets and in our communities. Anyone who is willing fight their vices, whatever they may be can be apart of F.I.G.H.T. I as well as other members will highly appreciate any assistance and/or suggestions. One of the reasons behind the creation of F.I.G.H.T is so that I may be the elite father to my beloved children. Daddy loves you Lakayla, Jacaina, Taniya, and Izayah. “YOU CANNOT CHANGE YOUR CONDITIONS OR RID OF YOUR HABITS UNTIL YOU FIRST CHANGE YOUR WAY OF THINKING”. Get Focused, Stay Focused and Keep Fighting! God Bless you all. Conlandgous Jordan 1/4/79 120 E. Depot St. Greeneville. TN 37743.

  2. My name is Dexter Smith. I am 33 yrs old and man how fast the years have went. I had high hopes and dreams that I wanted to achieve but ended up with just the high part. I have spent the past 16 years getting high or drinking but the hardest part is the pain I have caused my family because of my addictions. I can’t count the times I have hurt them and done them wrong. It is a pain that I will carry for the rest of my life. I love them dearly but that wasn’t enough to stop me from disaster. I have broken everything positive in my life, every chance to correct my wrongs I passed up. But now I’ve spent nearly 2 years in jail and I found the one thing that’s making me think hard of the things I’ve done and pain I have caused and it the F.I.G.H.T program. It’s not like other programs; it was created by inmates for the inmates and their families. It is for the people that have lived the life I have and they are DONE with it and want to change before it’s too late. We want our family’s back, we want to be forgiven for our sins, and we want to help others get through their vices so our families can have their sons, daughter, mothers, or father’s back. There is a verse in the Bible that I want to live by now and forever and its Corinthians 13: 4-8- Love is long suffering and kind, love isn’t jealous, it doesn’t brag, it doesn’t get puffed up, it doesn’t behave indecently, it doesn’t become provoked, it doesn’t rejoice over unrighteousness, but rejoices with the TRUTH. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love it never fails! To my family I want to say that I’m so sorry for all the things I’ve done that has brought grief and pain and even shame to everyone around me. My goal for the rest of my life is to live right and to be the man I always should have been. I pray that my family will forgive me. I love you all with all my heart and can’t wait to see everyone. Please take care and God Bless. Love Dee. Dexter Smith 3/9/81 120 E. Depot St Greeneville, TN 37743

  3. My name is Jeremy Johnson AKA JJ and I am a founding member of the F.I.G.H.T program. F.I.G.H.T has been extremely helpful to me and to others in the program. It has helped me fight my drug addictions and also helped me grow immensely spiritually, mentally, and physically. After I get released I am going to continue attending meetings and improving my life and the lives of others. God Bless. Jeremy Johnson 3/15/83 120 E Depot St. Greeneville, TN 37743.

  4. My name is Robbie Charles AKA RHD. Dear World, For as long as I can remember my life has been a mess. Even though I rock a smile I was on the road to self destruction. I was addicted to women and drugs. I thought that was the American dream. Now I realize it was all a nightmare. I pushed away everyone I ever loved. It was my way of protecting them from my harmful ways. When I started this incarceration I blamed everyone and everything for my current state of reality, I had no hope in things ever getting better. Then one night after a couple of months of starring at the bars something kept telling me to pick up a Life Recovery Bible. I stayed up for nearly two days with my head buried in it reading page by page. Even though I had all the answers in front of me I still couldn’t put it together. Very shortly after this I was moved to a different pod. M-Pod where I met the guys of the F.I.G.H.T program. That would forever change my life! Once I started the program it was like I had a road map to MY life recovery. It felt like I was an infant opening my eyes for the first time and everything was so dear. I have now been drug free for the longest time of my entire adulthood and I’m extremely proud to say that. Even though I am still incarcerated I feel free’er than I ever have. I know I was meant to experience this to better myself and to become the example my daughter and family needs me to be. I’m extremely blessed and grateful to be a part of the F.I.G.H.T family. I would like to end this letter with I AM SORRY to all my family and friends and Amanda the mother of my beloved daughter and to my little princess Kami…. Daddy loves you.

  5. My name is Eddie Walker; I am 23 yrs old. I am currently finishing up a six-month sentence in the Greene County Detention Center. I have struggled with drug and alcohol addiction since I was a teenager. My struggle has lead me being incarcerated multiple times including this one. I never felt like I had a drug or alcohol problem and therefore didn’t need any help. About two months into my sentence I was invited to attend a F.I.G.H.T program meeting being held in my pod. Listening to the guys at the meeting and seeing how they all struggled with their own vices, I realized I did have a problem I needed help! I started attending F.I.G.H.T meetings regularly and found support and encouragement to stay sober not only for myself but my family as well. With the help of F.I.G.H.T I realized drugs and alcohol were destroying my life. I now know that I can have a better life free of addictions thanks to F.I.G.H.T. I look forward to regularly attending F.I.G.H.T meeting when I am released. I am determined to stay sober and out of jail. This program definitely helped me and I’m confident that it can help anyone else seeking help to fight their vices whatever they may be.

Update: Eddie was released and is staying sober and planning on attending meeting.

  6. My name is William Thomas. I would like to tell you about a program that I found when I came to Greene County Detention Center in May 2014. The program is called F.I.G.H.T and is a group of guys who use the Life Recovery Bible along with the 12-step program to help with our drug addictions and other problems we may have. We meet three times each day and I am so glad I found this program. It has helped me get through the past four months and I will attend for the next 5 months. I plan to take the program with me when I am released and I hope by that time we will have community support so we can meet on the outside as well.

  7. My name is Robert Trusty. I have been in Greene County Detention Center for two months and since joined the F.I.G.H.T program. I have learned a lot about being a better father and staying drug free. I can’t wait to get out and participate in this program so I can learn more and get other people involved because it has helped me better my life for me and my family.

  8. I went from a model citizen to a felon in the blink of an eye. It’s been a hard thing to swallow. The should of, would of, and could of list seem to be a constant battle to overcome. I don’t know how I’d get through this incarceration without God, and the F.I.G.H.T program. Everyday is a struggle of some kind but being part of this program has given me purpose, hope and support that otherwise may not have existed before the F.I.G.H.T program began. I know God can use the most uncertain and difficult times in our lives for his Glory and our growth and I have grown in ways and self examination through this program I never thought possible in jail. I have met and befriended people I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to meet otherwise that are seeking to change their lives to be better people for themselves and their families and their communities. I know it has been a blessing for my family and myself to be part of a life recovery, ministry program, helping others as well as myself. We all are work in progress weather free or bond let us stand and F.I.G.H.T for our lives to be free of vices and addictions. WE CAN DO IT! “ I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.” God Bless JEM

  9. My name is Roy Treadway 5/18/84 120 E. Depot St Greeneville, TN 37743. I am 30 yrs old and 4 x convicted felon. I have two children one ten and one three months old. I have a 2 yr 10 month sentence. I have a great family and they love me a lot but I’ve done wrong and negative things for the last few years and although I’ve never lost their love, I have lost their trust and put them through a lot of disappointment and humiliation. I’ve never really wanted to strive to do what’s right because in my high mind what I was doing was the right thing and I wasn’t hurting anyone; so I thought. But finally, after ten strong years of getting high I have come to my senses and realized all the wrong and how mean and disappointing as a father, son and brother I was and I now realize at 30 yr. old that people CAN change. It takes commitment, faith, and a lot of love. Most of all it takes being the most Christ like person you can be because nothing starts and happens without God! So to all you people who say I just going to get high and be me because you think you can’t change it starts with God first as I said then you! You got to commit yourself and you will struggle. You will! Nothing positive is easy, you work for this, you get out what you put in but in the end nothing says it any better than you can do anything you set your mind too and it don’t matter what anyone else thinks. So before I close I want to say to all my family and my two sons mothers that I am sorry for what I was then but here is the new me! And I love you all. I just want to say as a member of the F.I.G.H.T program I have never had such headstrong mind set. I think this is “if” a person wants to be a better person or F.I.G.H.T a vice they may have; it’s a wonderful thing and its straight from the lives of people who live and F.I.G.H.T everyday. Thank you God! Amen

  10. Hi I am Clayton Hensley, a member of the F.I.G.H.T program. I am writing from the Greene County Detention Center. I have a drug addiction. I want everyone to know that. A drug addiction is something you will fight the rest of your life. It's not something you can just quit and walk away from overnight no matter what others think. You need to find a group for support. F.I.G.H.T will be on the streets soon. You can't do it alone. I would like to thank the jail administration, WBIR channel 10 news and The Greeneville Sun for their support in our F.I.G.H.T program.

  11. Hi my name is Justin Shelton my vice is drug addiction. Growing up I had a rough childhood, often beaten and abused by my father. I had a lot of traumatic experiences and it made me question peoples motives. I did not trust anyone I even questioned God, asking why I had to go through all this. Well, I am here to tell you those things only made me stronger. Joining this F.I.G.H.T program has gotten me closer to God and I've realized I've got more blessings than I thought. I am grateful for my experience it has given me strength and compassion, it has brought me a beautiful little girl that will be here in December and will show me what real love, compassion and trusting friends and family really is. I am finally happy with myself and where I am at as a person. I look forward to rebuilding my relationships with family, friends and the mother of my child. God Bless everyone and remember KEEP FIGHTING!

  12. We would like to first start off by showing gratitude and appreciation to several persons/groups. The new Greene County Detention Center Administration for materials and support, The Greeneville Sun and WBIR channel 10 news for showing an interest in our program. And to all the individuals who have promoted, supported or has shown interest in our program the F.I.G.H.T group wants to thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Currently we are working on establishing our "Street F.I.G.H.T" meetings. We would like to welcome anyone and everyone fighting vices or has a loved one struggling with a vice to attend. 13. Hello my name is Dexter Smith and this is my FIGHT. I think everyone gets what their looking for in every aspect of this program. Me personally I like the psychology side of the program in understanding why I was an addict. I come from a good, loving, hard working family that is involved in this program. Also by sending books for our studies. My addiction is from outside influence by wanting to fit in with certain crowds when I was a teen until I was consumed by drugs and then the depression from the pain I was causing my family until I lost complete control of my life and ended up in jail. This program is my life support because I know that I would die from a drug abused life without it.
Job said in 14:1-6: How frail is humanity how short is life, how full of trouble. We blossom like a flower and then wither like a passing shadow we quickly disappear. Must you keep an eye on such a frail creature and demand an accounting from me? Who can bring purity out of an impure person.
My life note is that there is answers to my questions, one that will satisfy both my heart and my mind, it will be found as long as I'm willing to work through my pain in life and still seek God.

  14. A parents hope for their children runs deep. Our son is currently incarcerated at GCDC and truth be told we put him there along with the help of our judicial system. You see this was his last life line because his father and I thought we would out live our son. He has been an addict since his teens. We have seen his highs and his lows. We have been through it all! Shock, worry, heartbreak, shame, distrust, embarrassment, dislike to name a few emotions. Just about everything including putting our son on the street as a homeless person! Now that was a heartbreak I can't describe. I, his mother had what I thought in my mind had given up all hope. Then a little amber of hope reared it head and F.I.G.H.T. began. Ok I will admit first reaction was he has all this time to do nothing. Talk the talk! After all I have heard it all before! Can he walk the walk? Then something I run across just pulled the shade up for me. ACCEPT WHAT IS......LET GO OF WHAT WAS.......HAVE FAITH IN WHAT WILL BE. The way I look at this is I am through supporting negative, why not support positive? If only ONE of this group makes it on the outside then its been worth it. A mothers prayer......Lord be with my child, guide him, heal him, hold him close because he chose to FIGHT these vices and he chose to follow YOU. I don't know what today holds but I know you hold the day, walk before him like a lamb and lead him and behind him like a guardian angel and protect him.In Jesus Name. Amen
The one thing that stands out to me in this program is they chose to FIGHT. Its not a requirement! Its a win win......the detention center want better individuals, the families are given a bit of hope, the members are learning good things. How can you not be a supporter? I for one will take this path because I have seen where the path has been and this is a very welcomed change in direction.
To all the members of F.I.G.H.T. I say keep on fighting!
To my son.....surround yourself with positive people and you will become a positive person. I will no longer enable you but will never stop loving you.
To all the people who are on the fence about supporting this group I challenge you! Share you thoughts and emotions. I have to say it has done my heart good to express in writing my thoughts.
    Sincerely,
    Fran......AKA......Dexter Smith's mother

  15. From Conlandgous Jordan AKA Cane.....
I have come to harshly understand that due to my vices, I have hurt so many people consciously or unconsciously. Step 9 of our 12 step program states in so many words that we must make mends, so here goes.
First of all, I apologize to my beloved children, Ta'Niya, Lakayla, Jacaince and my new born son Izaya! Know that I love you all more than anything! You all are the main reason I strive hard to better myself in all aspects, so that I will be the elite father. Without my kids, the F.I.G.H.T program may have not ever been created. I apologize to my Mother, aunt, Amanda, Lisa, Natasha, Latasha, my sis Eureca and the rest of my family and kids family for taking on my RESPONSIBILITY! Thank you all so much !!! Amanda, know that I'm proud of you. I love you. I'm sure you will stay focused for the sake of Madi and Little Cane :-). Mother, I am proud of you and your strive to never give up and keep fighting your vices. Eureca, the time has come for you to join the F.I.G.H.T. I love you sis! Ta Ta needs your focus! To all that I have hurt, to many names to say. But I pray you can find it in your hearts to please forgive me! To all my peers, family, and friends that I have influenced to do or be negative, I pray that I can now influence you to be and do positive! I love you nephew, keep writing music! Brandee, keep your head up, love you and write me back! Cowgirl, focus on your kids! I pray that you all will be receptive to make wise and right decisions as you move on in life. My beloved children, please heed my words, but chose your own positive path! Always put God first!
Life is difficult. This is a great truth, one of the greatest truth. It is a great truth because once we really see this truth, we transcend it. Once we truly know that life is difficult- once we truly understand and accept it- then life is no longer difficult. Because once it is accepted, the fact that life is difficult no longer matters!!! (M.Scott Peck, MD)
God Bless, Stay Focused, and keep fighting.

But I know we will be together, one day soon, and everyday will be a holiday, a holy day! Never taken for granted or taken lightly. So glad God forgives and teaches us too!! I am blessed to have family and friends and my church family, and the F.I.G.H.T. Coalition! I would surely be lost without you in here. 19. The Apostle Paul taught this....He said Don't be selfish; don't try to impress others(with things today; money; cars; houses; clothes) Be humble thinking of others as better than yourself. Don't look out for your own interest but take an interest in others too.
Note to self: I have experienced some major changes in my attitude. At one time I was so consumed by my addiction that I only thought of myself, not showing consideration for anyone else, not my family, not my wife, not my friends. It was all about me. I didn't care who I hurt to get what I wanted. I was cold hearted as they come, but now I work for God and I want to help others. I want my family and friends to forgive me. I will give for the rest of my life to everyone and never take from anyone again! And to my family I love you all and I hope that everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving and I am so sorry I wasn't there. Love Dexter

We're gonna graduate on or around Dec. 8th. I need to say this program has helped me out tremendously. In my heart and in my mind. I believe I was sent here for a reason. God works in mysterious ways. This program has made my time here easier. I feel content, humbled and work on these everyday. I hope you get to read this message. I love you. I wish all of you Happy Holidays. God Bless Melonie, In all the world, I hope to see you again. Storm

  21. Esteem Greetings!
F.I.G.H.T. is currently seeking licensed counselors who may be willing to assist in structuring the program on the streets. We are striving to make F.I.G.H.T. Coalition an interesting, creative FUN program that is never boring. And not just for the youth, but for us adults as well. This is what separates us from any other drug/self help program. We welcome anyone who wants to fight their vices to be a member of F.I.G.H.T. Coalition! I pray that you all have a blessed Turkey Day!!
The difficulty we have in accepting responsibility for our behavior lies in the desire to avoid the pain of the consequences of the behavior.

  22. Esteem Greetings:
It is said that drugs often produces a euphoria quite like the euphoria that comes from love. The problem with this false euphoria however, is that the body resists the chemicals and counteracts them, which means that as the drug is repeatedly used, it takes an increasingly larger dose to reach the same effect, which eventually destroys the mind and body!
As you know, the F.I.G.H.T program was created by inmates! Most of you that know me, know that most of my life has been full of vice! After so many years of trying times that I now understand that I brought upon myself, I decided to put my hands up and FIGHT my vices! Be mindful that one cannot be successful in this FIGHT without God on his or her side! We the F.I.G.H.T members in jail are in a unique position to share our experiences, our strengths, and our hope in a way that broken people can understand and receive advice on how to FIGHT back!! Stay Focused, Keep Fighting and God Bless.

  23. Each on of us has a valuable story to tell. We may be shy and feel awkward about speaking. We may think that what we have to share is too trivial. Is it actually going to help anyone else? We may struggle to get beyond the shame of our past experiences. But our recovery story can help others who are trapped back where we were. Are we willing to allow God to use us to help free others? Jesus left us with this vital task: "Go into all the world and preach the good news (of salvation from the bondage and penalty of sin) to everyone" (Mark 16:15) The Apostle Paul traveled the world over telling everyone of his conversion. He ended up in chains, but his spirit was free. He presented his defense (and his own story of redemption) before kings. King Agrippa interrupted him to say, "Do you think you can persuade me to become a Christian so quickly?" Paul replied, whether quickly or not, I pray to God that both you and everyone here in this audience might become the same as I am, except for these chains. (Acts 26:28-29. Life Note: When each personal journey from bondage to freedom is a microcosm of the gospel. When people hear our story, even if it seems trivial, we are offering then the chance to loosen their chains and begin their own recovery. Dexter Smith

  24. Hey guys, sorry its been a few weeks since I last sent out anything. I been overwhelmed with many obstacles lately. First off I wanna wish everyone Happy Holidays. I hope God blesses you all the way he has helped me. He truly is amazing. God said "Love each other in the same way I have loved you" There is no greater love than to lay down ones life for ones friends. We are not the Savior, but we can love others as he has loved us.Love goes beyond mere words. Sometimes it is spoken in silence, when we don't condemn someone who comes to us looking for help. Love doesn't just tell them what the problems are, it helps carry the weigh of their burdens. We can be part of a support network to help carry our friends until they are able to take steps toward recovery on their own initiative. I realize that times are hard when dealing with our friends and family during their recovery and often we wanna give up on them, but I urge you to keep fighting, we are all worth it. I hope this helps give you strength in your journey. God Bless You All.

  26. The Apostle Paul used three illustrations to teach about perseverance. He wrote to Timothy: Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. Soldiers don't get tied up in the affairs of civilian life for they cannot win the prize unless they follow the rules. And hardworking farmers should be the first to enjoy the fruit of their labor. Think about what I am saying. The Lord will help you understand all these things. 2 Timothy 2:1-8
Life note: Like a soldier, I'm in a war that I can win only if I F.I.G.H.T to the end. Like an athlete, I must train for a new way of life and follow the steps of recovery to the finish line. Like a farmer, I must do my work in every season and then wait patiently until I see growth. If I stop working this program before reaching the goal I may lose everything I have fought, trained or even worked hard for. Dexter Smith

  27. As Christmas is quickly approaching, we want to express to everyone how important it is to not get caught up in just the shopping & spending. Time with loved ones is priceless, spend as much time with each other as possible, being incarcerated sure puts the simplest, most important things in our lives into perspective.Love one another, if there are things to be mended between you, do it quickly and forgive. Spend time in God's house, and let him dwell in you, share the gift of Jesus that is freely given with those who are in need. I believe these are ultimate gifts. 1 Cor. 4 Faith, Hope, and Love and the greatest is Love! God Bless our families, our troops, our churches with the Holy Spirit, so that we can have life and have it more abundantly. On my prayer list is BJ Broyles, Eddie Malone, Gaye Malone all waiting test results on health issues. Jonathan, Lynn, and a friends baby who is suffering a growth in its stomach. Many others need our prayers, God knows each, as always Keep F.I.G.H.T members and all of us in jail in your prayers, as we pray for all of our Bloggers and Facebook friends. Have a real Merry Christmas this year, and God Bless everyone in his fold. JEM

  31. Esteem Greetings, People! On behalf of the F.I.G.H.T program I want ot extend my highest graditude to all that have supported and sponsor the program, we pray that you will continue to support this great fight in striving to better oneself in all aspects. May the blessings of God be upon you all! The F.I.G.H.T program has progressed rapidly due to its optimism and positive thinking. Mr Norman Vincent Peale stated in the book "The Power of Positive Thinking", when you expect the best, you release a magnetic force from your mind, the power of repulsion which tend to force the best from you. Know that I never had one doubt in my mind the success of this program! I welcome anyone to the program that want ot fight their vices and overcome addiction be it a chemical addiction or a process addiction. I urge anyone who want to become a member of this program to contact Conlandgous Jordan 1/4/79 at 120 E Depot St. Greeneville, TN 37743
We are seeking Licenced Counslors to volunteer to help structure the street F.I.G.H.T program. Thank you Merry Christmas and God Bless you all and Happy New Year! Keep Fighting Cane

  32. 1Peter 5:8 "Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour."
We must always be on point. We have to keep ourselves sharp mentally, physically and spirituality. So we don't lose focus on Gods plans for us. The bible says in 2 Timothy 2:15 "Study to show thyself approved unto God a workman that needth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." If we are to win this fight we have to work daily to better ourself. We in the Fight Program are working daily, preparing for the fight for our lives. For me failure is not an option. I will not fail, not only that but I am ready to help others fight for their life back to. I can't fight for you, but I will fight with you. As in, by your side. I encourage you all to stand up and fight back. Don't let the devil drag you to hell. Start your fight. Don't wait until it's to late. If they're any suggestions on meeting spots we would like to hear them. For now we are fighting our fight from behind these walls, but not much longer tho! Soon we will be coming home. I will be bringing my fight home in April! I can't wait! Stronger than ever.. Joshua A. Owens
